Community initiatives that create real change for young people across WA.
At Youth Futures, some of the most powerful support we receive comes through the creativity, generosity, and energy of our community.
From charity bike rides to Christmas appeals, our projects bring people together around a shared belief that every young person deserves a chance to thrive. Here’s a look at the initiatives making a difference.

The Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge traces the historic golden pipeline from Kalgoorlie to the Perth Hills over five unforgettable days, raising vital funds for young people experiencing homelessness across WA. Now in its eleventh year, it’s more than a ride. It’s a movement.
The Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge is an epic five day mountain bike ride from the red dirt of Kalgoorlie to the green of the Perth Hills, tracing the golden pipeline that has been delivering fresh water to Kalgoorlie for over a century. Proudly presented by Big Yellow Mining, the challenge raises vital funds for Youth Futures’ homelessness programs, including The Nest.
The 2026 ride takes place from Wednesday 29 April to Sunday 3 May. Riders camp overnight at Coolgardie, Southern Cross, Merredin, and Grass Valley along the way.
The Pipeline Challenge is suitable for everyone, from groups of friends looking for a social adventure to solo riders keen to push themselves. The course is varied but not overly technical, and most riders participate as part of a relay team.
Now in its tenth year, the Pipeline Challenge has raised vital funds for young people experiencing homelessness across WA. Every registration, every kilometre, and every dollar raised makes a real difference.

In 2025, the Youth Futures Giving Machine at Lakeside Joondalup raised over $4,000 from the local community in just a few weeks.
Giving Machines are vending machines in reverse. Instead of buying something for yourself, you purchase an item for someone who needs it.
Each machine partners with local charities to offer a selection of giving options, ranging from $5 to $200, with 100% of purchases going directly to the participating organisations.
Visitors walk up to a Giving Machine, choose an item to give, and swipe their card. A card representing the item drops from the machine, and donors can scan a QR code to receive a tax-deductible receipt. It’s a simple, memorable, and meaningful way to give.
In 2025, Youth Futures partnered with the Giving Machines at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre over the Christmas period. The community’s response was overwhelming, raising over $4,000 to support young people with essentials, emergency relief, and driving lessons.
The 2025 Giving Machines campaign has now closed. Stay tuned for updates on our involvement in 2026.

In 2025, the appeal raised over $20,000 and reached young people across our accommodation programs and community schools.
The Brighter Futures, Brighter Christmas appeal is our annual Christmas campaign, raising funds to provide care packs, gift vouchers, and essential items for young people across our accommodation programs and community schools during the festive season.
For many young people we support, Christmas can be a time that highlights what is missing. A care pack is more than a practical gesture. It is a message that someone sees them, values them, and believes in them.
In 2025, the appeal raised over $20,000, proudly supported by the Stephens Family Foundation, reaching young people across our accommodation programs and community schools.
Danielle, a Case Worker at Djinda, shared the impact firsthand:
“The excitement building at Djinda right now is beautiful. For many of the young people, it’s the first time they’ve experienced the positive side of Christmas. This process can really help shift the narrative around what the holiday season means to them.”
Giving young people the power to choose their own items adds another layer of meaning.
“Giving them the ability to choose their own items is incredibly powerful. For many of them, this is one of the few times they’ve been given a real choice in their lives.”
Kristy O’Bryan, Head of Student Wellbeing, reflected on what the appeal means for students:
“The most powerful impact is emotional. It’s about being seen and valued, knowing that people genuinely care about them.”
The 2025 Brighter Futures, Brighter Christmas appeal has now closed. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make Christmas a little brighter for young people across WA. Subscribe to our eNews for updates on our involvement in 2026.
