Every kilometre ridden in the Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge helps change the future for a young parent and their child.
Each year, riders take on this iconic five-day journey across Western Australia, following the historic Goldfields Water Supply Scheme from the red dirt of the Goldfields to the green hills approaching Perth.
It’s an unforgettable challenge — but the real power of the ride lies in the impact it creates.
Funds raised through the Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge directly support The Nest by Youth Futures, a program providing flexible, trauma-informed support for young parents experiencing homelessness, housing instability or unsafe living situations.
And for many young families, that support can be life-changing.
Take Marli, a young mum who entered The Nest after needing to leave the family home to keep herself and her newborn safe. While navigating specialist medical care for her baby and the emotional strain that came with it, The Nest provided stable accommodation and ongoing support while she worked toward a safer future. After years navigating the housing system, she has now moved into long-term housing where she and her child can finally focus on the next chapter of their lives.
Or Isabella, who came to The Nest while pregnant after living in an overcrowded home. With support through Nest Outreach and transitional housing, she created a safe and stable environment for her newborn while managing complex health challenges, maintaining her tenancy and planning her return to study.
And young parents like Imani, who first connected with Nest Outreach at just 18 while pregnant and without stable housing. With support, she prepared for the arrival of her baby, moved into transitional housing, and later secured public housing while continuing her education. Today she’s completing a nursing degree and raising a thriving young child.
These journeys look different, but they share something important: the opportunity to build stability, confidence and independence.
That’s the goal of The Nest by Youth Futures — supporting young parents to strengthen safety, parenting capacity and long-term housing stability while building strong futures for their children.
And it’s made possible in part by the riders, volunteers and supporters who take part in the Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge.
