Jack

Jack was just 15 when he became homeless after leaving his parents’ homes. Violence in his relationship with his mum and his dad’s inability to accommodate him in his new family left Jack with nowhere to turn. Crisis services turned him away due to his age until he found TINOCA, a Youth Futures program that changed everything.

After a warm conversation and interview, TINOCA offered Jack a safe place to stay. Walking through the doors, he’d braced himself for a grim, crowded shelter but instead found his own room, a community of peers, and staff who genuinely listened. Though he felt out of place initially, Jack quickly formed close friendships and began to feel at home.

TINOCA’s support helped Jack work through his family relationships. With their guidance and an outside mediator, he rebuilt his bond with his dad. After four months, Jack moved back home, graduated year 10 with excellent grades, and eventually secured his own place with Youth Futures’ assistance in providing a fridge and washing machine. What began as his darkest moment became his fresh start.
