Talia made the courageous decision to come out as transgender, which meant leaving her family’s home in the country.

When she made her way to Perth, TINOCA—Youth Futures’ crisis accommodation—became her safe haven. Walking into a shared house for the first time while transitioning was daunting, but the moment Talia stepped through the door, staff welcomed her with kindness and respect that immediately eased her fears.

During her months at TINOCA, Talia received far more than shelter and meals. Youth workers became like friends, offering emotional support and making her feel truly seen and valued. Despite caring for six young people, the staff handled their responsibilities with remarkable patience and compassion. Her case manager became a lifeline, teaching her independence skills and connecting her with resources to help her stay off the streets.

Through TINOCA’s support, Talia has built confidence, formed meaningful bonds, and learned to navigate life on her own terms. As she moves forward into her future, she carries the program’s support with her, living authentically and building a brighter tomorrow.
