This Anti-Poverty Week (12–18 October), Youth Futures is standing with our community to shine a light on the growing impact of poverty in Western Australia — and the action we can take together on the frontline to end it.
Supporting Young People Through the Cost-of-Living Crisis
Across Western Australia, the ongoing cost-of-living and housing crisis continues to hit young people hard. More young people are reaching out for help, often for the first time, because they can’t afford basic essentials like food, hygiene products, or transport.
That’s where our Emergency Relief program comes in. It provides immediate, practical support for young people in crisis — things like food vouchers, toiletries, SmartRider travel passes, and emergency hampers.
But it doesn’t stop there. Each young person who walks through our doors also receives wraparound support and referrals to help them access youth housing, counselling, education, and longer-term stability.
“We see young people doing everything they can to keep going. Sometimes they just need a small bit of help to get back on track,” says a Youth Futures outreach worker. “A food voucher or transport card might not sound like much, but it can be the first step toward safety, connection, and hope.”
Partnering to End Poverty in Our Community
This year, Youth Futures is proud to partner with the City of Joondalup and other local organisations for the Hardship Support Services Expo and EYE CONTACT Portrait Photography Exhibition by Phil England at Lakeside Joondalup.
Together, we’re sharing real stories of hardship, resilience, and community, and highlighting the support services available for young people doing it tough.
A Brighter, Fairer Future for Young People
Our goal is simple: to help build an Australia where no young person faces hardship alone, and every young person has the chance to create a brighter, safer future.
