Talia's Story
I’m Talia, and after coming out as transgender, I had to leave my family’s home in the country. I made my way to Perth and found a safe haven at TINOCA, Youth Futures’ crisis accommodation. Walking into a shared house for the first time was scary, especially while transitioning to live as a girl. But the moment I stepped through the door, the staff welcomed me with such kindness and respect that my worries melted away.
During my months at TINOCA, I got more than just a bed and meals. The youth workers became like friends, offering emotional support and making me feel truly seen. They’re amazing, handling six of us young people with patience and care. I’m so grateful for how they’ve treated me.
My case manager has been a lifeline, teaching me skills to live independently and connecting me with people who’ll keep me off the streets. Thanks to TINOCA, I’ve built confidence, formed strong bonds, and learned to navigate life on my own terms. I’ll carry their support with me forever as I move forward, living authentically and building a brighter future.
