How we help
At Youth Futures we believe that education is the key to opportunity. We also understand that mainstream school isn’t for everyone and that every person's path to success is unique.
We offer young people a flexible and supportive environment to complete their studies with an approach that is tailored to the individual need of each student with a variety of study options and support. The young people attending our education programs have faced many barriers to education including bullying, mental health disorders, learning difficulties and homelessness, to name just a few. All of our alternative education options are registered with the Department of Education; Youth Futures Community School as a Curriculum and Re-Engagement in Education (CaRE) School and Anchor Point as a Community Based Course. We also run workshops for young people, parents and professionals throughout the year.

How our education programs work
Anchor Point Flyer August 2024
Our Anchor Point program provides disengaged secondary students, who are not ready for CaRE School, with an alternative to traditional high school. Four days a week, we offer our students a flexible, youth friendly environment where they can complete their education while getting extra one-on-one support; with a large focus on personal development, work readiness, health and wellbeing. This approach allows students to make meaningful progress in their course according to their individualised study plan.

Young people at our alternative education programs can participate in private counselling or group sessions to discuss alcohol/drug use. The DESS program provides a safe space for young people to discuss current challenges in their lives with a professional who can provide them with accurate information on topics such as harm minimisation strategies and mental health.
This program is supported through the Department of Justice, Criminal Property Confiscation Grants Program.
The Pathways program sees a dedicated Transitions Officer supporting young people to succeed beyond gaining a Certificate in General Education. Based at Anchor Point (Bayswater), the Transitions Officer will provide mentorship and support to young people through every stage of their application process, from exploring opportunities and networking to coaching in resume writing and interview etiquette. The mentorship provided lays foundations that will help set the young person up for success, ensuring they transition smoothly into the professional industry of their choice.
Through our education programs we identified many young people needing additional intensive and individualised support before they could complete a nationally accredited course. Following the successful pilot of the LLSP in 2018/19 we now have a team of literacy officers working across our education sites. Providing one-on-one support to students displaying significantly lower literacy and numeracy skills than their peers, the program ensures that young people have the skills they need to start and successfully complete their Certificate I in General Education for Adults.
In 2018, Youth Futures became a Registered Training Organisation (RTO: 52833) under the name Futures Education and Training WA (FEAT). This has enabled our trainers and assessors in the above programs to develop and deliver appropriate training materials relevant to the young people we aim to help. We have implemented a Continuous Improvement Strategy which ensures training and assessment is of a high quality and compliant with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015. At present FEAT only delivers curriculum to education programs under the Youth Futures umbrella.
