There was an incredible buzz in the room at Joondalup Resort this week as we came together to celebrate 40 years of Youth Futures: four decades of walking beside young people and building brighter futures together.
The energy was contagious, full of warmth, pride, and purpose, with Board members, politicians, police, sector leaders, volunteers, and our dedicated teams from homelessness services and community schools all joining in the celebration. It was a morning that reflected the heart of our organisation: people from every corner of the community standing together for young people.
Our wonderful MC, Fiona Cornelisse, set the tone with warmth and humour, leading into moving speeches from Board Chair, Kellie Benda, and CEO, Michelle Jenkins, who spoke about the compassion, courage, and community that continue to drive Youth Futures forward.
Then came the moment we were all waiting for, to hear from the young people themselves.
The session began with an inspiring and heartfelt conversation between MC Fiona and Youth Futures Midland alumnus, Josh Hewson, whose honesty, humour, and authenticity had the whole room smiling. With the support of his teachers and youth workers, Josh followed his dream to become an actor - from Youth Futures classrooms to Home and Away, and now working in the United States. His story showed just how powerful belief, encouragement, and opportunity can be.
Next came a panel of five incredible young people - Brooke, Lilly, Sophia, Everleigh and Caydence - moderated by Principal Paul Jones and Head of Homelessness Services, Rachael Nudds. Their honesty, insight, and courage were deeply moving, offering a raw and hopeful look at what it means to overcome barriers and dream big.
We were also joined by Minister for Youth, Hon. Hannah Beazley BA MLA, who shared her strong support for the work of Youth Futures. Her acknowledgment highlights the positive impact of our work over four decades and into the future.
It was a morning of pride, gratitude, and inspiration, and a powerful reminder that when we stand together, we can change lives and futures.
